Private Callers

What is the deal with people who block their phone numbers for Caller ID? Now there are some people whom I excuse, for example, law enforcement, my pediatrician's home phone and cell phone (because we know crazy parents would be calling ALL the time) and celebrities. I have friends who are famous and oddly they don't all block their numbers, but some do. I think that is reasonable considering how star-crazy people are. But, random people I know who have NO reason to block, I just don't get. If you have Caller ID, then you should not block your number. It's only fair. Especially those who block their number but say, "Hi Elizabeth!" when you call them. How nice! How convenient for THEM that they can see it's me.

Further, if for some reason you need to call someone and do need to block your number for whatever reason, then just do *67 before you dial the rest of the number. I welcome comments on this topic, otherwise, I remain convinced I'm absolutely right.

Aww Liz, I have a private number ... and it's always been that way because I met my share of crazies in high school and have been paranoid ever since. I hope I get a nanny pass haha!

That is the reason for ours as well. We pay to have an unlisted number because my husband teaches in public school and I teach in a juvenile jail.

Sorry, I know you wrote this because of me! Anyway, the reason is that time warner set it up this way and we're just too lazy to call them up and be on hold for however long it will take to have them change it to show our name. I don't even remember telling them not to use our name so this must be some sort of default thing.

I don't have a problem with unlisted numbers. I'm not talking about unlisted numbers. I'm talking about Caller ID, where you block the people YOU ARE CALLING from knowing it's you. It's weird. Because you are the one doing the calling....Why don't you want them to know it's you????

I hate getting "restricted" calls... Makes me not want to answer them... Usually, it's my mom, and she does it on purpose because she knows I want to know who it is so I'll likely answer it but if I know in advance it's her, I just might let it go to voicemail... But then, I just made my life a bit more peaceful by just blocking her cell phone! Now, she can only call me when it's absolutely necessary... borrowing someone else's phone, of course!

Love always,
Heather

My hubbie is an ex-cop and I have a weird stalker ex-friend from law school...but I always dial *82 when dialing any friends. I won't pick up if I don't know who's calling so why would I expect my friends to? But when doing any other every day calling (or when I work from home and make business calls), I don't want the people having my home number and calling me back at any hour - particularly when I first had the baby.
